Lipsticks...Textures, and an Application That Will Last

When choosing a lipstick, remember that what a product looks like in it's packaging is not always how it appears on the skin. This is a rule that happens to apply to most makeup! And has everything to do with the product's texture. Makeup texture is just as important as the colour.

How to Prepare the Lips

It is important to prep the lip before application, just as you would prep the skin. Dry, flaky or cracked lips can ruin the finished result. Exfoliate lips before hand, try a toothbrush, then apply a soothing balm to heal and protect!!!!!!!!

Sheer Lipstick

  • Transparent, allowing the natural color of lips to show through. Creating a see-through effect.
  • No matter how much product is applied when using a sheer tone, the effect will be very limited in colour.
  • Best choice when you want to create a natural look with only a hint of colour.
  • Lip Stains go one step further, coloring the lip without having a coating.

Matte Lipstick

  • Flat colour, without shine or gloss, and most are dense in colour.
  • Less likely to bleed into fine lines around the lip area. GREAT FOR MATURE SKIN!!!

Cream or Satin Lipstick

  • Smooth appearance with a touch of sheen that appears almost moist.
  • Different levels of transparency depending on the brand.
  • GOOD CHOICE FOR BRIDAL MAKEUP!!! They have a hint of moisture and more colour than a sheep lipstick.

Frost Lipstick

  • Touch of glimmer or metallic added to the colour to create a shimmer effect.
  • Varying degrees of transparency, like cream or satin tones.
  • GOOD CHOICE IF YOU WANT TO CREATE LIPS WITH REFLECTIVE SHINE WITHOUT USING LIP GLOSS.

Opaque Lipstick

  • Dense colour and is used to fully cover the natural lips.
  • Can have a matte, satin, frost or gloss finish, but the colour is not transparent.
  • IF YOU WANT TO CREATE LIPS WITH HIGH COLOUR IT IS BEST TO CHOOSE ONE THAT IS OPAQUE!!!

How to Apply Lip Colour and Make it Stay

  • Always block out lips with foundation or concealer first, before applying lipstick, to create a clean base. This will also help colours to appear truer.
  • Line lips with a lip liner. They are useful for recreating a different lip shape, correcting flaws or enhancing the existing fullness.
  • By colouring the whole lip you can build a solid base, and then add lipstick to intensify the colour. Will also, help with staying power.
  • Adding a clear or coloured gloss on top, will also help with the staying power of lipstick.
***Pressing the product onto the lips firmly with your finger is sometimes easier to control.

***Adding gloss will give volume to the lips, and by mixing colours you can create interesting tones.

***Using shimmer or glitter on top gives high shine to photo shoots.

***Other products, such as eyeshadow, cream eyeshadow, loose powder pigment, greasepaints and blush creams, can also be used on the lips.

Makeup is endless and so is creativity. Sometimes your greatest painting is washed off every night at the end of the day. So don't be afraid to try new things and experiment. After all, what is the worst thing that could happen...you might need to start over. Have a beautiful day experimenting!!!
