All About Eyeshadow

Continuing with my week devoted to makeup ... today is all about the eyes, eyeshadow that is. The differences, how to apply, and to finish, I will teach you how to apply the perfect smokey eye!!!

How the colour of the eyeshadow appears on the eyelid depends on the cosmetic brand used, it's texture and it's application.

***Using an eye primer or eyeshadow base, can boost colour, eliminate creasing and allow the makeup to last longer. My  favorite happens to be from NYX Cosmetics. Choose white to amplify the colour intensity or nude for additional coverage.

There are 5 different types of eyeshadow...Matte, Cream, Frost, Glitter and Loose Pigment

Matte

  • Flat colour, without shine.
  • Perfect for contouring of crease colour.
  • Gives greater appearance of depth, than shimmery shades
  • A contour eyeshadow brush is a useful tool to get this desired effect.

Cream

  • Moist or wet texture
  • Some creams that stay moist and appear wet are prone to creasing, while others go on wet, but set dry.

Loose Pigment

  • A loose-pigmented eyeshadow is made up of tiny particles of colour and usually comes in a small pot with a lid, rather than a flat casing.
  • Can achieve varying degrees of effects with loose pigment shadow.
  • Apply with a fluffy brush to create a sheer wash of colour.
  • With a denser tool, such as a basic eyeshadow pad, you get a more opaque and stronger tone.
  • If mixed with a liquid medium, you can actually paint it onto the skin.

Frost

Crystal-like shine to it.
When applying it, use a stiff brush, which will give a stronger application of the frosted pigment.

Glitter

  • Contains small particles to reflect light.
  • Loose glitter can be applied on the eye area like an eyeshadow, but it needs a sticky surface to grip onto, such as a cream shadow or eyelash glue.

***Glitter and frost colours, can amplify fine lines and wrinkles. For Mature Skin, using matte shadows or creams is your best bet.
